New talk for 2026

BYRON'S PILGRIMAGE - His life and travels

Byron was captivated by mountain scenery, here in the Alps, and his travels clearly were the inspiration behind many of his writings.  His appetite for new places was never satisfied.  The talk follows Byron from Falmouth to Lisbon, from Portugal and Spain to Albania, Greece, Switzerland and the beautiful cities of Italy, interweaving his pilgrimage through the Mediterranean countries with that of Childe Harold, the subject of the poem which made Byron famous, who sets out on a similar journey to seek meaning, purpose and fulfilment.
